Who is Mr. Simpleton?

The story of Mr. Simpleton began in 2006, when I was doing my master's at the Latvian Art Academy. I was experimenting with new concepts and wanted to figure out a way to portray a pure, innocent, simple-mindedness. This is how I came across Mr. Simpleton. In essence, he looks like a white dumpling. A perfect blank canvas for his inner world. A world that is emotional and pays close attention to the small details of everyday life.

People are accustomed to fairy tales ending with “happily ever after” and closing the book, but in reality, that’s just the introduction. The actually fascinating stuff is still to come. The story of Mr. Simpleton is full of irony, contradictions, and the universal beauty of ordinary life. The stories I portray Mr. Simpleton in are just that - simple, but that’s exactly what makes them familiar to every onlooker.
